Largest Tax Increase in State History in 2003
 – Nearly $1 Billion
(SB 2, SB 8 - 2003)

Angle:
NO

Raggio:
YES

“The People in this state are not over taxed.”
– Bill Raggio, Nevada News Makers Interview 8-2-07

"I am the only candidate in this race who actively opposed Nevada’s record-breaking tax increase in 2003, and I led the fight in the Legislature and in the courts to stop that tax increase. As a member of the Assembly, I was proud to not only have voted against more than 100 attempts to raise taxes and fees, but I have also consistently been the only vote in the Legislature against those unnecessary tax increases.

A Mandatory State Spending Cap
- Limits the Government to not Spend more than Necessary

Angle:
YES

Raggio:
NO

“There are people out there who think we should cut spending.
That’s easy to say unless you sit on a money committee in the Legislature…”
– Bill Raggio Senate Finance Chair, Las Vegas Sun 11-4-07

“Since the largest tax increase in the history of the state in 2003 - even after the latest budget cuts - the state budget has grown roughly 10% a year (totalling above 70% which is double population plus inflation during that same time of 36%). I introduced in the 2003 legislature and supported and collected signatures for the 'Tax and Spend Control for Nevada' Initiative in 2006, which imposes a constitutional measure to limit government spending. I also support the Governor's SAGE (Spending And Government Efficiency) Commission and proposed spending cap." - Sharron Angle

Property Tax Reform
- Stable and Predictable Property Tax Rates for Nevadans

Angle:
YES

Raggio:
NO

“I don’t think that ought to be in the constitution.”
– Bill Raggio, Nevada News Makers Interview 8-2-07

"I have been circulating the initiative petition 'Property Tax Reform for Nevada' to keep the people of Nevada from being taxed out of their homes while the government claims they need more revenue. I believe that property tax rates need to be stable, predictable and in the constitution so the legislature cannot raise rates whenever they want more of the people's money to spend."

Allowing for a ‘Gas Tax Holiday’
- Lowering Local Taxes on Fuel for Relief at the Pump

Angle:
YES

Raggio:
NO

“I am not going to hear any amendments at this time.”
– Bill Raggio, Legislative Special Session 2008 While he killed an amendment allowing for a ‘Gas Tax Holiday’

"I was proud to have the opportunity to propose a 'Gas Tax Holiday' while serving in the legislature. In the senate, I will be the strongest advocate for price relief at the pump. Nevada law says that if the government relaxes federal fuel taxes - state taxes automatically rise to make up the difference (NRS 366.195). This law needs to be repealed."
-Sharron Angle

Signed the ‘No New Taxes Pledge’

Angle:
YES

Raggio:
NO

“I have never signed a pledge of that kind.”
– Bill Raggio, Nevada News Makers Interview 8-2-07

"I am the only candidate in the race to sign the pledge to never raise taxes on the hardworking citizens of this state." (Click Here to Read it)

2001 Reapportionment that Reduced Northern Nevada Seats
& Increased Democrat Control in the Legislature
(SB 14, 2001)

Angle:
NO

Raggio:
YES

“Compromise is always a part of the legislative process.”
– Bill Raggio, Nevada News Makers Interview 1-16-07

"I voted “no” on the 2001 Senate Bill 14 that sent 3 Assembly seats and 1 Senate seat to Las Vegas giving Democrats a 2/3 majority in the Assembly. Twenty-six Legislators - including 11 from Northern Nevada & Speaker of the Assembly Joe Dini - voted against this bill because they knew it was wrong for Northern Nevada. I will act to ensure the reapportionment process in 2011 is fair and equitable for all Nevadans. Standing on principle is essential in defining what it is to be a Republican."

Term Limits
- Agreeing with the Votes of the People in 1994 & 1996

Angle:
YES

Raggio:
NO

“I don't think term limits are good. I would vote in support of doing away with term limits. ”
– Bill Raggio, In Business Las Vegas Interview 6-6-08

"The founding fathers intended a volunteer citizen representation in government - not career politicians.
I support term limits."
- Sharron Angle

Requiring the Appointment of Judges who Currently are Elected (SJR 2, 2007)

Angle:
NO

Raggio:
YES

“Those who oppose this type of process believe it takes away the people’s right to vote… Similar proposals before the legislature and electorate in past years were defeated in 1972 and 1998.I am a lawyer practicing over 50 years in Nevada who believes this process is superior to the election process.”
 -Bill Raggio’s Legislative Testimony 3-8-2007

"The appointment of judges will contradict 146 years of tradition where We the People have elected our judiciary. Twenty-seven states elect judges but those states that appoint judes are in the process of repealing those laws - they just don't work."
-Sharron Angle
