Text Box: Assemblywoman Angle To Lead Ballot Initiative Discussion In Minden
Volunteers will be in area to gather signatures for measures

Minden, NV - Nevada State Assemblywoman Sharron Angle, a strong advocate for lower taxes and less government, will speak to the members of the Douglas County Republican Women’s Club this Wednesday January 4th from Noon until 1:00 p.m. at the Carson Valley Inn concerning several ballot initiatives designed to protect taxpayers.
Angle, Reno (R) will be discussing three of the several ballot initiatives expected to be on the ballot in November of 2006. Foremost is her own Angle Property Tax Restraint Initiative, a statewide ballot initiative widely referred to as the Nevada-style Prop 13 that is designed to restrain property taxes. Angle is expected to address how her initiative will impact Douglas County fiscally.
Angle spoke in Minden this summer after the end of the Legislative Session when the four-term Assemblywoman announced her candidacy to run for the congressional seat being vacated by Jim Gibbons. There was some concern that Angle would not have time to sponsor her initiative that will provide a permanent cap on property taxes. Angle relieved the audience by telling them that she keeps her promises to the taxpayers, and was first in line to file her statewide ballot initiative in September.
"Taxpayers know that despite the temporary measure passed by the Legislature in April of 2005, my measure to protect their wallets is needed more than ever", said Angle. That measure, Assembly Bill 489, was passed in an effort to stem voter popularity of Angle’s petition. Recent polling has discovered otherwise. Angle explained, "taxpayers know that without permanent constitutional relief, lawmakers will change the rules anytime to continue soaking the taxpayers."
Those wishing to hear Sharron Angle speak at Carson Valley Inn can RSVP with Corky Greer at 775-782-3967. Volunteer signature gatherers will be at the Douglas County Library that same day from 9am to 8pm to gather signatures for the petitions. At 7pm, the public is also invited to meet with Mrs. Angle at 1669 Hyde Drive in Minden to ask questions and sign her petition. Petitioners will need to secure 83,157 signatures to qualify.
