Text Box: Assemblywoman To Continue Statewide Initiative Tour In Elko & Ely
Volunteers will be in area to gather signatures for measures

Elko, NV - Nevada State Assemblywoman Sharron Angle, a strong advocate for lower taxes and less government, will visit Elko and White Pine Counties as part of her statewide signature gathering tour. Angle will host several speaking engagements while gathering signatures for her Angle Property Tax Restraint Initiative, a statewide ballot initiative widely referred to as the Nevada-style Prop 13. The tour has had Angle traveling the state in recent days, with several events held in Fernley, Reno, Minden, Tonopah, Pahrump, Minden, Henderson and Las Vegas.
When Angle, R-Reno, announced her candidacy to run for the congressional seat being vacated by Jim Gibbons, there was concern among taxpayers that she would not have time to sponsor her initiative to provide a permanent cap on property taxes. Angle reassured taxpayers that she keeps her promises, and was first in line to file her statewide ballot initiative in September.
"Taxpayers know that despite the temporary measure passed by the Legislature in April of 2005, my measure to protect their wallets is needed more than ever", said Angle, now in her 4th term as a Legislator. That measure, Assembly Bill 489, was passed in an effort to stem voter popularity of Angle’s petition. Recent polling has discovered otherwise. Angle explained, "taxpayers know that without permanent constitutional relief, lawmakers will change the rules anytime to continue soaking the taxpayers."
Beginning on Wednesday January 18, the conservative lawmaker will address the Elko Rotary Club at Stockmans Casino at noon (RSVP at 775-738-9258). Mrs. Angle will then arrive at the Raley’s Supermarket located at 2505 Mountain City Hwy in Elko at 2pm to gather signatures for her Angle Property Tax Restraint Initiative. At 5:30pm she will be guest speaker at Red Lion Inn (RSVP at 775-777-3427).
On Thursday January 19, the anti-tax legislator will arrive in Ely at noon to be a guest speaker at the White Pine Senior Center, located at 1000 Campton Street. From there she will appear at the Department of Motor Vehicles located at 178 N. Avenue F between the hours of 1pm - 4pm to continue her signature drive.
Mrs. Angle returns to Elko on Friday January 20. She is scheduled to appear at the Senior Citizens Center located at 1795 Ruby View Drive where she will be the guest speaker at 11:30am. Angle is expected to address how her initiative will impact Elko and White Pine Counties fiscally. Petitions for the Angle Property Tax Restraint Initiative will be available to sign at the listed events. 83,157 signatures are needed by June to qualify for the November ballot.
