ANGLE TO ADDRESS DOUGLAS COUNTY REPUBLICAN CENTRAL COMMITTEE
Minden, NV - Nevada State Assemblywoman Sharron Angle (R) Reno, a strong advocate for lower taxes & less government, has been invited to speak to the members of the Douglas County Republican Central Committee regarding the Angle Property Tax Restraint Initiative. The statewide ballot initiative is widely referred to as the "Nevada-style" Prop 13, which is designed to protect renters, homeowners, and businesses. Angle will also be discussing another statewide ballot initiative she is co-sponsoring known as TASC - the Tax And Spending Control For Nevada, a taxpayer Bill of Rights which will limit government growth & spending.
Mrs. Angle filed her Property Tax Restraint Initiative last Thursday, the first day that the filing period became eligible. However, signature gathering will not begin until at least 30 days after the initial filing, due to more stringent measures that were proposed by the Secretary of State in the last legislative session concerning citizen ballot initiatives. "It's a constitutional right for the Nevada citizens to petition an overbearing government. Unfortunately, this waiting period is just one more added barrier that the citizens must go through in order to represent themselves against uncontrolled government," said Angle.
We The People Nevada, a political action committee, will orchestrate the movement to collect the 83,184 signatures necessary to put the measure on the November 2006 Ballot. Angle's initiative will amend the Nevada State Constitution. "Nevada taxpayers want to sign this petition and vote for a constitutional amendment to limit property taxes, because they know that the Legislature will do away with the current property tax limitation law", said Angle. "What the Legislators giveth, the Legislators can taketh away. But with my ballot initiative, the voters are able to guarantee permanent tax relief for their families."
